On a chilly afternoon, Cannock put on an ice-cold display of discipline and determination, freezing Tamworth out of the game. With four under-14s in the side, a returning Jonny Frost, and his debutant son Leo, Cannock showed their composure to secure a well-earned victory.
The match began with Cannock looking solid defensively and carving out opportunities in attack. It wasn’t long before the debutant himself, Frost Jnr, marked his arrival in style. With quick reflexes and excellent positioning, he converted from close range to open the scoring, sending a chill down Tamworth’s spine.
Not to be outdone, Frost Snr reminded everyone why he’s a seasoned campaigner. Showing great persistence, he netted Cannock’s second after a short corner was recycled, marking his first goal since rejoining the side. The Frost duo left Tamworth shivering as their composed finishes gave Cannock a comfortable cushion.
However, things weren’t entirely smooth sailing. Tamworth pulled a goal back and asked some questions of Cannock as the game went on. Cannock mainly kept their cool…Dippa, perhaps feeling the seasonal spirit, picked up his second yellow card in as many games. With more yellow cards than Christmas cards, he left Cannock to see out the match with 10 men.
As tensions flared late on, JT lost his cool and earned himself the unenviable title of “Dick of the Day” for an unnecessary outburst. Nonetheless, Cannock kept their heads and saw the game through, with the younger Frost earning the “Man of the Match” honours for an outstanding performance.
A frosty day for Tamworth, but Cannock kept their cool, delivering a performance as sharp as the winter air. The Frost family debut will be remembered as the day Cannock froze out the opposition.
